MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Einstein at Elkins Park Hospital houses nearly 200 inpatient beds and several large outpatient and rehabilitation facilities. Top priorities for the hospital include providing quality comfort and care for each patient. To satisfy these needs, the hospital needed to replace their mechanical systems with equipment that not only prove to be cost and energy efficient, but that also provide a comfortable, consistent environment for the patients, staff, and visitors. The Fluidics team worked to minimize noise and overcome any other discomfort that could affect patient care.
Fluidics' scope of work included designing and developing a plan to create a more energy efficient cooling system by building a central chilled water plant. Two energy efficient 500-ton chillers, two 500-ton cooling towers, and all new pumps and variable frequency drives were installed. In addition, Fluidics installed a building automation system (BAS), which enables the building engineers to set the controls remotely. Fluidics is able to save the client 465,892 kilowatt-hours of energy per year, which equates about $37,200 in annual energy cost savings. Through the Smart Equipment HVAC Incentives program at PECO, a local utility contractor, Einstein received a $50,980 incentive for the project.
